Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba was appointed as a Group Executive Director of Discovery Limited in July 2011. He holds a medical degree from the University of Natal, specialised in Obstetrics and Gynecology, holds an MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the University of London, and an Executive MBA from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town.
Before joining Discovery he served as a Deputy Director- General for Policy and Planning in the National Department of Health from 1995-1998 and as Director-General of Health in South Africa from September 1998 to August 2003. In September 2003, Ayanda was appointed Director-General of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa – a task he performed until March 2011.
He currently also serves as a non – executive board member of South African Tourism, a member of The Lancet – University Oslo Commission on Global Governance for health in collaboration with Harvard Global Health Institute as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the South African National Aids Trust.
