The SAWIP Boards, Managements, Alumni, Partners and Friends are delighted to announce that Clem Sunter — “Mind of A Fox” — has agreed to become a Patron of the Organisation, joining the esteemed Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
Clem Sunter was educated at Winchester College (UK) and Oxford University. He had a distinguished mining industry career and is well-known for his “scenario planning initiatives” and his innovative thinking about the future with regard to society, government and business. Clem managed the team that created “The World and South Africa in the 1990s” presentation with its “High and Low Road” options, that materially influenced the thinking that lead to the 1994 democratic change in South Africa.
Clem has continued to advise NGOs, Governments (including the Central Party School in Beijing), Utilities, Business, etc on the future and their strategies. Over almost three decades he has also authored seventeen books, while he is recognized for his contributions to corporate social responsibility, nation building and social justice, the war against HIV and AIDS, and the development of a new generation of entrepreneurs in South Africa.
He is now in semi-retirement, but continues to write, and consult and speak on a global basis, while enjoying time with his wife Margaret and their three children and families. He was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of CapeTown, and spends his spare time walking and listening to music.
Clem has been a good friend of SAWIP over several years — we are now very pleased to welcome him in an official capacity.
