On the 13th of August this month my former society Young Corporate Leaders hosted a Women of Worth Event in collaboration with UP SRC and Tuks Rag , this event was formed by myself and colleagues in 2014 with the aim of celebrating women in the entrepreneurial space. Young Corporate Leaders is a society we started to cultivate entrepreneurship at the University of Pretoria, seeking to offer the students platforms of conceptualising their business ideas and enhancing their business acumen.
It was in this line of work that we met the then Member for societies to form an event that will celebrate women in the month of August. We occupy in corporate spaces rooms that are male dominated, we find a lot of incubation initiatives being primarily occupied by men. The vision we started with was to enable women on our campus with a platform where they can realise their potential, where they can come together as women to form partnerships that could grow into well established businesses, we sought to provide tools of encouragement of how to occupy these male dominated spaces.
In this years event it was so amazing to see was was initially planned for 100 people to have grown to over 250 with sponsorship from Vodacom and various other partners. It is important for to me to play a role in recognising the impact women make towards the advancement of our society, the abundance of skills they have in forming businesses.
Lynette Ntuli one of the speakers said ,
” If women do not stand together & move in unison for the greater good, the only thing they’ll be owning yearly is the month of August.
Well behaved women are not known for creating history, be the change you want to see.”
