Albert Maartens is currently President of Standard New York Securities, Inc. a US broker-dealer and subsidiary of the Standard Bank Group (“SBG”). Standard Bank Group is the largest banking group in Africa and has extensive operations in 17 sub-Saharan African countries. Outside the African continent, SBG’s network span 13 countries and four continents, with a commodities and emerging market focus. Albert previously held the positions of COO, CFO and CCO at Standard Equities, the Group’s South African broker-dealer. His career also included holding leadership positions in the enabling functions as well as the front office of the corporate and investment banking division. His career began at Price Waterhouse Coopers where he led teams performing audit field work at government, corporate and volunteer organizations and designed and implemented microcomputer and networking solutions to audit clients for five years.
A passionate leader known for mentoring and developing talent at graduate level and developing mentoring programs, Albert offers a unique blend of team-building skills and a reputation for judicious use of resources and resulting cost containment. His results-oriented approach and more than two decades of experience in African and international banking and equity markets complement his accounting, finance and technology background. Albert obtained degrees from the University of Pretoria and the University of South Africa in Business and Finance and holds several international professional registrations and designations. |
