Wayde Groep

Wayde Groep is currently a BSc Human Life Sciences student at Stellenbosch University. He has completed various short courses on democracy and citizenship, global citizenship and social change agency as well as filling leadership roles on campus. He currently co-ordinates and facilitates a short course, Facilitative Leadership, offered through the Frederik Van Zyl Slabbert Institute for Student Leadership Development. While at Stellenbosch he travelled to Tubingen, Germany and has taken part in different conversations related to diversity and multiculturalism both as a facilitator and panellist. He is currently appointed as one of five Social Entrepreneurship Interns within Stellenbosch’s flagship senior student community, Listen, Live & Learn. He is passionate about leadership development, social justice and creating inclusive spaces for meaningful dialogue.

She is passionate about designing and implementing systems and processes to solve complex problems and believes that a risen Africa and South Africa can be achieved through technological progress and change, particularly in the technology and manufacturing industries. Lehlohonolo is also passionate about gender transformation and the empowerment of women in South Africa. She founded and serves as the chairperson of Lean In at the University of Pretoria. Inspired to develop and empower women, particularly in the engineering environment, Lehlohonolo mentors first year female engineering students. Lutho Vika

Lutho is currently completing a master’s degree specializing in Economic Development at the University of Cape Town, where she also completed both her undergraduate and honour’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE). She is passionate about the protection and promotion of human rights, particularly those related to women. In 2013, she co-laboured with fellow students to revive Amnesty International at UCT where she served as Secretary-General. In 2014, she participated in the Geneva Advancing Development Goals contest where her group project aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills in young South African women was long-listed among the Top 10 finalists which included applicants from around the world. She was also invited to attend the 2014 Brightest Young Minds Summit for African leaders where she engaged with other young leaders on bringing about socio-economic impact in South Africa. Her passion for the development of women inspired her to mentor young girls in disenfranchised high schools in Cape Town. Lutho aspires to, one day, work for UN Women.

Nehna Daya Singh

Nehna is an Honours student in the field of English Literature at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). She is a Research Assistant and a Teaching Assistant in her department. She is on UWC’s graduate journal team, WritingThreeSixty. She is also the content editor and communications coordinator for SayHelloDesign under the division of the Centre for Student Support Services (CSSS) at UWC. Nehna is a member of the South African-Washington International Programme (SAWIP), a graduate of UWC’s Emerging and Advanced Leaders Programme and a member of the Golden Key International Honours Society. She is passionate about inspiring youth to identify and pursue their purpose in life. She is a karate coach and tutors part-time. Nehna also contributes towards women empowerment and education, which she believes is a key area of development in South Africa. She intends to pursue further university study together with growing and practicing her leadership interest in Student Development.

She enjoys the occasional verbal jousting with family, friends and strangers and finds engaging in conversations the best way to gauge an understanding of different opinions and contexts. Safa Naraghi

Safa Naraghi is currently completing his final year of a BSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town. He is part of the Golden Key International Honour Society and has been on the Dean’s Merit List for 4 years. Safa enjoys spending his time participating in Junior Youth classes inspired by his religion, the Baha’i Faith. These classes teach Junior Youth (aged 12 to 15) the importance of service to their communities and also instil valuable morals. Safa is a passionate believer in helping youth grow their confidence. He feels that confidence goes a long way to helping them achieve their goals. Safa is also very enthusiastic about technology and how it can shape the face of Africa. He hopes to one day implement low cost renewable energy solutions in Africa. In doing so, Safa hopes to relieve the population of the high cost and health hazard associated with current energy solutions.

Ebrahim Shaikh is a Law Student at the University of Cape Town. He spends a large portion of his time thinking about writing a novel. In between this far-fetched procrastination technique and nursing a backache from numerous hours spent studying legal textbooks, he uses his keen interest in politics and social justice to vociferously argue in the comments section of News 24 and Facebook posts.

Jabulile Mpanza

Jabulile is currently studying towards a master’s degree in Economic Development at UCT. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce as well as an honour’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. Originating from the economic hub of Africa, Johannesburg, she is an African enthusiast and carries her flag in her heart. In January 2014, Jabulile was selected to attend the International Youth Leadership Conference in Prague where she not only represented South Africa, but also the entire continent. In December 2014, she was chosen to facilitate the Middle Eastern version of the conference in Dubai. With the recent decision to pilot the conference in South Africa, Jabulile was selected as the in-country project manager, with the hope that she will continue to teach about her continent, as well as engage with those interested in shaping a better world. Jabulile has served as the Vice-Chairperson of the Post-Graduate Commerce Student Council at UCT and volunteered as a business consultant for Siyaya, a non-profit initiative that teaches business related skills to zealous entrepreneurs. Furthermore, she tutors undergraduate political science courses at UCT and spends part of her vacations interning as an aspiring economist/development strategist at Genesis Analytics, a consulting firm.

Alwin Mabuza

Alwin Mabuza, recipient of the Jacko Maree Scholarship, is pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Management Sciences with a double major in Industrial Psychology as well as Business Management at Stellenbosch University. In 2014, he served as a member of the Leadership and Development subcommittee of the Student Representative Council where he worked closely with the recently established Frederick van Zyl Slabbert Leadership Institute to encourage active leadership on campus. He also served as class representative in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences whilst simultaneously taking on the responsibility of mentor at Eendrag Men's Residence. Alwin spends his holidays away from campus life serving on the executive board of YAW (Youth Action Week); a program designed to impart life skills and thinking skills in young people living in inaccessible villages in rural Mpumalanga. In addition to his studies, Alwin is also a talented choral conductor and radio presenter at MFM 92.6 Community Radio Station. Alwin is a driven young man with a deep desire and a will to solve problems, especially those related to human suffering.

Daniël Eloff is currently a third year undergraduate student at the University of Pretoria completing his Bachelor of Law degree. He serves the University of Pretoria Moot Society Executive as Treasurer and Head of Fundraising, as well as sitting on his residence, Tuks Village, Residence Management Committee. Mpho is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology at the University of Pretoria. He takes up numerous electives from the environmental sciences course with the intention of acquiring another BSc degree in that field. In 2010 he took a gap to get himself involved in his home community’s NGOs including volunteering at Emily Jordan Home Based Centre and at Leratong Hospital. He served as a mentor at House Kiaat in 2013 and also set on both his Residence and Faculty House Committee where he later was elected Chairperson for the latter. In 2014, he was invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society. Mpho has great interest in environment management and wishes to become an environmental lawyer in the future, he has embarked on an entry in this field through vacation work. He worked for Glencore-Xstrata’s Sustainable Development and the Health, Safety and Environment departments respectively in 2012 and 2014.
