The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

SAWIP Alumnus named Project Manager of SIGLA

SAWIP Alumnus named Project Manager of SIGLA

Petrus van Niekerk, SAWIP Alumnus (2009) and Board member, has recently been appointed as Project Manager of the Security Institute for Governance and Leadership in Africa (SIGLA). The SIGLA was established in 2011 and functions under the aegis of Stellenbosch University’s HOPE Project. SIGLA has as patron the former President of Mozambique, his Excellency Joachim Chissano, and also has close relationships with the Africa Forum for retired African heads of states.

SIGLA aims to generate new research through its extended networks and to disseminate such information on the African continent extensively. In its pursuit to promote justice, peace, safety and security in Africa the SIGLA has four main project themes which include: (1) Conflict resolution & peace building, (2) Maritime Security, (3) Migration: Implications for Safety and Security in Africa, and (4) Good governance and public leadership for safety and security in Africa. Petrus is also currently completing a Masters in Public Administration/Management (MPA) at Stellenbosch University’s School of Public Leadership.
