Sally Vanessa Currin

After a few years of high school teaching in Gauteng schools, a stint of full-time motherhood and running a small, retail business I took on the challenge of fundraising for an ABET NGO. This involvement in non-formal education led me to return to university where I completed post-graduate studies in adult education.

I retired at the end of 2011 from 18 years in training and development facilitation. The first 12 years were dedicated to enabling Whole School Improvement and the final six to raising literacy levels, all in the most under-resourced and low-performing schools in the township of Atteridgeville, Tshwane.

I serve on the Board of Motheong Primary School, an exceptional, independent school, in Atteridgeville.

I have been a Soroptimist for 18 years and currently hold the position of President, Soroptimist International South Africa (SISA) and President Elect of the newly established SI Southern African Network which brings together Soroptimist clubs in the entire Southern African Development Community (SADC). Soroptimist International is the largest and most long-standing women’s organization, with permanent representation at the United Nations, which, through awareness, action and advocacy aims to help women and girls realize their human rights and become leaders of positive change in our world.

Since the beginning of 2009 I have assisted, in a voluntary capacity, the South Africa – Washington International Programme (SAWIP).
