This is an extract from my InvestSoc fortnightly address which was sent to our members a week ago. Many individuals found it inspirational and thanked me for my dosage of inspiration-I thought it would be great to share it as a SAWIP blog post. More so The VISION of SAWIP is of a South Africa with strong leaders who have a global perspective, who serve others with humility and integrity and in so doing inspire future generations to do the same.
Good day members, This fortnightly report is for that 1st year student who enthusiastically signed up for InvestSoc and brought her friends along with her, it’s for returning students who believe in the value we strive to add on campus.
This fortnightly report is for that student whose education represents the hopes and dreams of his/her family. It’s for that student whose siblings are Investment professionals and has heard about InvestSoc since high school. It’s for that rural student whose accent is deemed inadequate by his peers.
This is for that engineering student who is keen on investing in the stock market, it’s for those humanity students who question the role that large corporates play in creating sustainable economic value in our society. It’s for some of our members who are law students who believe that corporations should be hit with more regulations in order to prevent financial contagion.
This is for the suburban boy, who can’t fit in with the cool students, whose dashed hopes of starting a business are the centre of every joke. This is for the Young Women Professionals member whose ambition is a force to be reckoned with. It’s also for that young lady who isn’t taken seriously by male students at committee meetings.
This is for that student who got excluded and came back to UCT to give it another shot. This is for the student who has excelled academically, the student who has avoided social pressures at all costs and gets sidelined for being too nerdy.
This is for those who aspire to become future government officials, industry leaders and good stewards of society, it’s for those amongst us who constantly wish to strive for more and do better than yesterday, it’s for those who don’t give up and relentlessly strive to redefine their best efforts.
It’s for our InvestSoc members who keep us on our toes. For those who have tried and failed and still get up to try again. It’s for those who question us, who probe our true intentions. This is for those InvestSoc members who make an impression on our guest speakers through well thought out questions and remarks. Let’s keep pushing, exams are nigh- and all the very best with the voting this coming Wednesday, lets actively participate in the gains of our democracy and vote as we mark our 20 years of Freedom.
This fortnightly is also for those who question your legitimacy to be great- Don’t listen to them. Let’s be great…..
