The South Africa-Washington Internship Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support a diverse new generation of emerging South African leaders within multiple disciplines.

Reitumetse Phiri

Benedict was the very first SAWIP student selected to participate in the
Leadership and Service Program in Washington DC. He was then a senior Law Student at the University of Cape Town. Since his SAWIP opportunity Benedict has remained involved as an Alumnus in the development and growth of the program and has provided legal assistance to the SAWIP(SA) Board as the program has formalized. He serves on the SAWIP(SA) board.

Michael Currin (MT)

Michael was invited to Washington DC to participate in part of the Washington-Ireland Program for Leadership and Service (WIP) and, in this way, begin to explore the possibility of establishing the South Africa-Washington Internship Program (SAWIP). During his undergraduate years in Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town he was involved, with others, in the development of SAWIP from its initial exploratory phase, through its pilot years to its full establishment. He served as the Manager of the 2007 and 2008 SAWIP Teams, is an honorary SAWIP Alumnus, and now sits on the SAWIP(SA) Board.
