The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

A Message from the SAWIP Boards

The South Africa and Washington, D.C. Boards of SAWIP as well as the entire SAWIP community are in deep shock and overcome by a profound sadness at the loss of Thembi Losi (Alumna 2011). We have been robbed of a very special and talented young leader who was destined to play her role in making our society a better place for all. In the words of Carol Wheeler who was the SAWIP Washington DC Board Chairperson in 2011 and Thembi’s host mom:

“Though so very young, she always had an 'old soul' aura about her and was, without a scintilla of doubt, a truly, truly good human being.”

We send heartfelt condolences and love to Thembi’s parents, family and friends whose pain we can hardly imagine. 

All of SAWIP, past and present, are enriched through having journeyed with her in this earthly life.

Rest in Peace, young friend.
